ENTRY HALL: The receptionist of your home!

This article is especially aimed at those who don't have an entry hall in their home. It doesn't matter whether it's due to personal taste, lack of need, or even lack of awareness about an existing need masked by different habits — it's worth reflecting on the usefulness and convenience of entry halls and the conscious introduction of one in your home. Shall we?

We often talk here on this blog about how welcoming, cozy, harmonious, original, and inviting a true home should be. That's why the presence of an entry hall is so important in creating such an environment, as it acts as the friendly and welcoming receptionist among all the rooms. From the outside, the door invites, and when opened, the hall is there to greet, reflecting the identity of those who live there through its style and furniture composition. In summary, the main functions of an entry hall are to genuinely welcome everyone who enters the space and to create a transitional zone between the exterior and interior, preparing people before they access the other rooms of the house or apartment.

A harmonious composition of colors, furniture, textures, lighting, and decor is essential to create the desired receptiveness in an entry hall, as it generates the pleasant sensations we all love when arriving in a cozy and welcoming space. It’s wonderful to arrive somewhere and find relaxing colors on the walls, with basic and efficient furniture at hand, like hooks to hang our coats and keys, a bench or pouf to sit and remove our shoes, and a soft and charming rug to rest our feet on, placing those shoes in a discreet shoe cabinet integrated into a lovely console table that supports a beautiful lamp, which creates the warm and relaxing atmosphere so necessary after a full day. And that special little plant to bring life to the space? Oh, what a cozy spot! And right next to it, a preferred antiseptic spray available for anyone in need of an immediate hand and/or shoe sanitizing, a charmingly framed mirror for a final check before leaving, reminding us of the incredible person living there through its reflection, as well as offering the first check to anyone arriving, providing a friendly greeting to every visitor — especially women, who love to check the perfection of their look (we love a mirror, don’t we?)! Hahahaha

A nice little movie just played in your head, right? Well, exactly. It's wonderful to arrive somewhere and be atmospherically greeted and welcomed like that, but we're not always aware if we're offering the same for those who come to our home, are we? "Oh, do I really have to spend money and time creating space in my house for others?" Helloooooo???? Aside from the bitterness and lack of generosity of those who think this way (yes, a lot of heads out there think like that!), the truth is, you're not just doing it for others — you create this welcoming and inviting environment mainly for yourself, the resident!

Let’s remember the concept of reflection in our home, which was mentioned here on the blog in another article: our home REFLECTS US, and it should reflect us not only for others but especially for ourselves, comforting or alerting us about who we are becoming.

See? Our home, in addition to being able to provide us with all things good, is also an excellent psychological, emotional, and personal gauge. Let’s use that to our advantage.

Now, let’s take a look at some examples of comfort and functionality in entry halls. Let’s move on to the images:

When we encounter this entry hall, we immediately feel the warm welcome and coziness expected through the functional and decorative elements present in it.

The use of colors with soft, gentle temperatures combined with the floral pattern of the wallpaper bring relaxation, enhanced by the textures of natural fibers in the rug and baskets, the wood in the bench, and the tiles on the floor.

Practicality and warmth are present through functional elements like the shelves, which allow for the organization of shoes, and the multi-purpose baskets that serve needs such as storing umbrellas and other items. The wall hooks are essential for things like hats, blazers, jackets, and especially in homes in colder regions, where we regularly use thicker and longer coats. It’s great when we have the convenience of having a place to put these items when we arrive and an easy spot to grab them when we leave.

In this one, we have similar functionality and coziness through the use of soft pastel tones on the walls and door, combined with plants to bring life, elements of wood and natural fibers, and the addition of mirrors in the space. Mirrors serve both as a check-point when entering and leaving and to create a sense of spaciousness, especially useful for small halls. Additionally, of course, they are an excellent decorative element when framed with beauty and style.

In this image, we have a large hall enriched with natural lighting. It offers similar functions and coziness to the previous images, with the addition of a console table, which is often a central element for both functionality and decoration when present in entry halls.

I love this example for two special reasons, in addition to functionality and coziness: harmony and identity. When decorative elements harmonize with each other and implicitly reflect the personality of those who live there through every texture, material, finish, color, plant, and the way each of these elements is arranged in the space, we identify originality, life, and sensitivity. This is what makes each home unique, sacred, inviting, and truly special.

Every corner of our home is worth the investment of money, time, and maintenance because, in reality, we are investing all of that in our being. Therefore, let's be!

Until the next post!
